About The Book

Growing up in the Florida Keys tropical paradise, I learned about the island life, filled with drug smugglers, bandits, sunken treasure and dirty saloons. A product of my environment, I faced a judge and a prison sentence at age 19. Through a combination of music and the healing power of nature, I found my way to a new path and managed to stay out of prison.

After experiencing a series of misfortunes — I discovered my bandmates were bank robbers on the run from the FBI, hurricanes destroyed my guitar studio and all of my personal belongings, and I ultimately lost my home and entire life savings to the greed of a family member —  I set out on a quest to find answers to questions in my soul.

I journeyed through the highways in the wilderness of the United States. Compelled to find the true meaning of life, I embarked on traditional four-day vision quest, alone in the wilderness, where I discovered ancient secrets and the breadcrumb trail of a mystery I had been following. Months later, wandering into Washington, DC, the city where I was born, I was attacked by a gang of youths, and later held at gunpoint by two teens.

I decided to take my hard-won knowledge and leadership skills to the streets to help at-risk youth and foster kids find that same power inside themselves. I put it all together in a successful youth mentoring program called Gregg's Guitar Mentoring (GNG). Doing so taught me “the way to change the world.” I share these discoveries in my memoir, a tale that will take the reader on a remarkable journey through the mosquito-filled mangrove swamps and the bitter freezing mountain air to the polluted city streets full of dangers of another kind.
